I feel like so much time went by since I last wrote a life update! Is it me or was January just the longest month ever? I’m so glad that it’s now finally February! Hopefully, we’ll be getting to warmer days soon… I just can’t with winter anymore.
I feel like this month was pretty uneventful, especially comparing to my days abroad. I guess I have a hard time believing that it’s all over, and now I have the travel bug (more on that later on). My days seem pretty boring compared to what I used to have in the UK, but I guess I have to come to terms with the fact that I can’t spend my life traveling, at least not until I graduate (six months y’all!!!).
I’m considering spacing out these life updates because I feel like I might not have enough content to write one every month… Let me know if you think I should space them out or continue posting them once a month!
New internship, new city
So, unless you’re new here, you probably know that at the beginning of January, I’ve started a full-time internship at a small company called Patience Fruit & Co. I’ve been doing mostly Web-based tasks, like managing their Instagram account and Facebook page and updating their website, among other things. (I tell you more about my days here if you’re interested.) So that’s what I’ve been doing every day from Monday to Friday for the past 4 weeks.
I’ve also moved back to the south shore of Montreal because that’s where my internship is taking place. I love having my own place and doing my own thing, and it’s making me excited to start adult life in own apartment once I graduate.
I’m planning a trip for this summer?!
If you follow me on Instagram and have seen my most recent post (damn you, algorithm), then you might know that I am planning a post-graduation trip this summer. Ever since I’ve been back from the UK, my feet have been itching to explore not only my area but also the world. I want to see everything the world has to offer, especially now that I can. You don’t know what life might throw at you, and before you know, you’re tied down to a cubicle working 40 hours a week with 3 kids. I know we don’t all have the same aspirations. To some people, what I’ve just described is a dream. But for me, the idea of staying in my hometown forever and never getting the opportunity to visit all the places that are on my bucket list makes me sick. I NEED to venture and explore the world more.
As of now, nothing has been decided yet. I might be going somewhere with my family, one of my friends (all the people mentioned above have expressed interest in traveling with me this summer), or completely on my own. I don’t know how long I would be gone for. I don’t know where I would be going, though I do have a few destinations in mind (think Europe or a big Canadian/US East Coast city). The only that I am certain of is that it would take place shortly after I’m done with my last semester, so somewhere in August. I really want to do one big trip to celebrate the fact that I survived through three years of university and to celebrate my entrance into the “real world”, and ideally, it has to be before I start my big girl job (which I have no idea what it will be yet, but I’ll keep you guys updated!). When I have more details, I’ll make sure to share them with you all! But you can expect more travel posts and guides on my end from now on. 😉
Working for a company where slow living, biological products, and a healthy lifestyle is part of the business’s core values have certainly influenced the way I look at life. I work with people who are very active and keep a healthy lifestyle, and it has inspired me to do the same. It made me realize that I need to change some things about my life if I want to live a long and happy life. So working for Patience Fruit & Co has influenced me in more than one ways. I am more mindful and aware of the choices I do, I try to eat more healthy food, I walk more… I am just more aware of the way I treat my body. Hopefully those choices will stick and make a difference in the way I see myself!
Books I’ve read
I’m so proud of myself. I kicked off the year by knocking down 5 books from my Goodreads challenge of 50! I don’t even remember the last time I read so many books in one month. I hope it’ll continue this way! I’ve bought (too) many books recently (check out my book haul on the highlights of my instastories to see what I’ve bought!), so hopefully, I’ll be motivated to continue reading as much as I am doing right now! So here’s what I read since my last life update:
- Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur – 5/5 stars. I’m usually not a big fan of poetry, but this book just wowed me! it’s raw, with emotions splattered all around. Rupi Kaur’s words are powerful, that is for certain. Even if I haven’t lived the same situations as she did, I could still connect with her writing. I would definitely recommend that every woman reads this book!
- The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas – 5/5 stars. With the book being turned into a movie that is coming out soon, I really wanted to read the book. I was expecting this book to be good, but I never thought it would be THIS good! Read my complete review here.
- Unfiltered by Lily Collins – 4/5 stars. This book was a nice surprise. I wasn’t expecting much when I started reading it, but Lily ended up being such a talented writer! She is truly an inspiration and I wish her story was more widely known, especially to young women! Read my complete review here.
- A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas – 4/5 stars. Fans of Beauty and the Beast and/or of Sarah J. Maas’s work, you’ll love this book! You won’t be able to put it down, trust me. Read my complete review here.
I’m currently reading Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo and I’m SO excited! I’ve just started reading it and I’m already loving it, haha.
I’ve been slacking when it comes to Netflix recently (and it’s probably for the better). I’ve been spending more time on my blog and reading, which means that the time I would normally
waste dedicate to Netflix have been spent some other way.
I did watch the first season of The Good Place, and despite being very weird at first, I just LOVED it! I basically binge-watched all 13 episodes in one sitting (that plot twist at the end of the season OMG?!). I really liked the cast (can’t go wrong with Kristen Bell) and the concept is just very interesting. I would definitely recommend it!
I also started watching The Blacklist, and I really like it! I started watching it after seeing snaps from Kiersten (also known as Miss Getaway) on Instagram and I ended up really enjoying it. I’m only on season 1 so far, but I really like the storyline. I already know the “big plot twist”, but that doesn’t mean I’m not enjoying the show. James Spader as Raymond “Red” Reddington is simply amazing and he is probably the whole reason why I’m enjoying the show (his character is my FAVE).
Netflix added the sixth and final season of The Mindy Project this weekend, so I spent the entire day on Saturday watching all 10 episodes. I was SO excited for the season, and despite being good, I can’t help but being a little disappointed. It was okay, but it didn’t meet my expectations. I do like the way they wrapped things up and how things ended, but I feel like there was something missing. Still, The Mindy Project remains one of my favorite TV shows, and I can definitely see myself rewatching it at some point in the future. 😉
I’ve also watched a few movies recently, and all of them were just so good! I’ve seen the new Jumanji with my aunt at the theatre, and I just loved it! It was hilarious, the cast was brilliant and I love how they brought back this old classic to life. (Also, Nick Jonas was just… *insert heart eyes emoji*)
As far as Netflix goes, I watched the new Netflix original Step Sisters and really enjoyed it! If you liked Pitch Perfect, I’m pretty sure you would enjoy this movie. I also watched finally got around to watching How to Be Single because it was finally added to Netflix this month and I really enjoyed it. It kind of reminded me of Sex and the City, and it definitely made me want to move to New York City (haha).
- In the light of all this healthy lifestyle interest of mine lately, I have been more into reading blogs that are just about this subject (not only as part of my job but also just for my own pleasure). A favorite of mine lately has been the online magazine Blondstory, a French Canadian Quebec-based website about living a healthy and mindful life. It’s in French, but I have been kind of obsessed with everything Virgine and her team has been doing lately!
- One song I have been playing on repeat lately is For You by Liam Payne & Rita Ora from the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack. Ever since I’ve heard it, I’ve been simply OBSESSED with it! It’s just SO good!
- It’s kind of random, but I took some pictures for my books that will spark your wanderlust post earlier this month, and I took one of my best and favorite pictures yet. I am still no picture pro, but I really like how this one turned out! It was for Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson, and I feel like it kinda captures the essence of the book. Let’s hope I’ll just continue to improve from there!
Favorite #wanderfuladventures pics
Did you know that I had my own hashtag on Instagram? Abot a year ago now, I created the hashtag #wanderfuladventures so people could share pictures of their life adventures (travel-related or not) with other users. Well, I am happy to report that there are almost 1.4K pictures tagged with this hashtag on Instagram now! I thought I could include a new section in these life updates where I share a few of my favorite pics of the moment so that you guys could see what other people in the community are up to! So make sure you share your Instagram pictures using the #wanderfuladventures hashtag for a chance to be featured!
After 6 hours of fitful sleep last night, I got myself up and ready to board a train 🚞 to Patrick to see the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum and the University of Glasgow and omg was it a sight with all the snow. 😍❄️ I had such a wonderful time exploring today! Then I went to the first International Welcome Week event and made a couple German friends and had my first legal beer (cider?) and it was gooood. 🍺😏 — Also, I counted and this photo breaks my 19 photo streak of photos of me 😂
Sometimes I feel really really good for a couple days, and I’m like, “Huh, maybe I don’t have anxiety problems, and and I was just being an overdramatic little bitch this whole time, and now I’m going to feel good forever and not worry anymore and I’ll stop going to therapy.” /// And then the next day it hits me again, and for no real reason, my heart is pounding, and my mind is racing, and my chest feels tight, and it feels difficult to breathe. And I really want it to stop, and I really want to bury myself under 10 blankets, or just lay on the bathroom floor, or run far far away and disappear forever. /// My whole life, I’ve felt like I’ve been trying to out run something.
Thinking about London 🇬🇧 London is just one of those places you always wish you had more time to explore. I mean, sure I got plenty of stuff checked off my bucket list (after all, who wouldn't want to visit Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross?!), but there's still so much to do and see! My top must-do on my next trip? Taking a ride on the London Eye.
