SYNOPSIS

How To Get Away With Murder follows the life of Annalise Keating, a law professor and criminal defense attorney at Middleton University. At the beginning of the semester, she selects five freshmen to intern at her firm for the semester : Wes Gibbins, Connor Walsh, Michaela Pratt, Asher Millstone and Laurel Castillo. As we follow the life at the firm and several cases of Keating, it explores two significant murders through flashbacks.

WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH IT

I am usually not one for mysteries and thrillers, but this TV show had me completely hooked from the first episode.

There are several reasons why critics acclaimed it. To begin with, the complex and intriguing story will have you glued to your screen. Not only do you want to find out why the interns had to kill Annalise’s husband, but you are also craving to find out who Lila’s murderer is. The story takes numerous unexpected plot twists. You will never know what to expect (trust me when I say that you will never have seen the season finale’s plot twist coming) and will be on more than one occasion swept off your feet.

How To Get Away With Murder also offers a great diversity of characters, with great representation of today’s society. We have kick-ass women (especially the main character), a majority of people of color among the cast, a gay couple, and the list goes on. Each of the characters is unique, complex and played in depth. There are obviously clichés, but there is always that little something that makes them stand out. They are all given a back story in at least one episode, which allows us to get to know them better. Every one of them is different and there are many reasons to worship them.

Finally, the show has an excellent cast. Viola Davis offers a breath taking performance. Other members of the cast are worth mentioning. One of the interns is played by Alfred Enoch, aka Dean Thomas from the Harry Potter movies. His portrayal of Wes gives depth to the character. Also, Liza Weil, the woman who played Paris Geller in Gilmore Girls, once more shone with her performance.

Quite honestly, every single person in the cast is very gifted. There is not one performance that seems not up to everyone else’s caliber. All of them shine through their brilliance. The show also received many awards.

Need I say more?
