Ever since I’ve been abroad, my hormones have been acting up. My hair becomes greasy faster, I am either super hungry or really not… and that’s just the beginning.
But, surprisingly, there’s one thing that hasn’t seem to be affected by the English weather: my skin. I still have the same soft skin with barely any blemishes or imperfections. I have a friend whose skin doesn’t seem to be liking the English weather, and I’m so glad that this isn’t my situation.
It’s been a hot sec since I wrote a skincare routine post (over two years… whaat?), but since I don’t use most of the products I’ve mentioned in that post anymore, I thought it was due for an update. I’ve also purchased new products recently and I’m absolutely loving them, so I thought I would share them with you guys.
So before we head into the products that I use, I just wanted to let you know that I have a combination skin, which means that it’s pretty normal, save for areas that tend to get a little oily. My skin is also a little bit sensitive. So if you have a different skin type, the products that I use and swear by might not work for you.
Step 1: Remove makeup.
I haven’t been wearing makeup that much recently, but when I do, I always start off by removing it. Ever since I’ve started wearing makeup, I’ve been using the Vichy Pureté Thermale 3-in-1 One Step Facial Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. My mom introduced me to that amazing product, and this is the only one I ever used since. I’ve tried other brands, but I always end up coming back to this one.
It works as a cleansing milk, a toner, and an eye make-up remover. In just one step, you can remove your makeup, clean your skin and tone it. And it leaves no greasy finish! You can remove it either with a cotton pad, as it doesn’t require any rinsing, but I personally use it in the shower with a washing cloth.
It’s perfect for people who don’t like to use a ton of products or are in a hurry, as it also works as a cleanser and a toner!
Step 2: Wash my face.
As much as I love the Vichy 3 in 1, I always make sure to go back and actually wash my face after I removed my makeup. This may be an extra unnecessary step, but I like to know that my skin is really clean before I go to sleep. Since I haven’t been wearing much makeup recently, I normally start with this step. Back home, I was using the Vichy Pureté Thermale Fresh Cleansing Gel Cleanser, which I did love but didn’t bring with me abroad.
Since I’ve been to England, my friend has introduced me to the holy grail that is Lush. I’ve bought three of their products since I’ve been here, and I haven’t been disappointed so far. (All three products are featured in this post by the way.) So the wash my face, I have been using the Lush Ultrabland Facial Cleanser. Despite its weird texture (I blame the beeswax), I’ve loved the results that I’ve seen so far. My skin feels completely clean after I use it.
You don’t need a lot to get great results. I use Ultrabland once a day (normally in the morning) and my skin looks soft and smooth. I massage the cleanser into my skin while in the shower and then remove it. I’d recommend using a face cloth or cotton pad to do it because you won’t be able to get the product off using only water. #beentheredonethat
Step 3: Tone it up.
After I have washed my face, I make sure my skin is toned and that all my make-up and impurities have been removed with a toner. Even if you use the 3 in 1, which already has toner, it’s not a bad idea to go back and actually apply toner onto your skin. A toner helps the skin come back to a regular pH and keeps the skin clear and fresh.
I personally use the (you guessed it!) Vichy Pureté Thermale Perfecting Facial Toner. I love the feeling it leaves on my skin after I’ve used it. What is great about Vichy products is that they contain no parabens, which is a chemical product that is bad for your skin.
I really wash my face only once a day (usually in the morning). The other time, I’ll skip the face cleanser and go directly to the toner (normally at night). It helps getting rid of the impurities that may have gotten onto my skin during the day and ensures that it’s at least a little clean before I put my head on my pillow.
Step 4: Moisturize.
I always finish my skincare routine with moisturizer. With all the wind, the humidity and the cold, I need to keep my skin hydrated in order to keep it smooth. For the past couple of years, I have been using the Uriage Aquaprecis Moisturizing Refreshing Gel Cream and I love it, but this summer, it got discontinued. I had a minibreak down and decided it was time for me to move on to a new moisturizer. *cries*
Well, after a little research, I found my new holy grail! It turns out Uriage still had the moisturizer that I cherished and loved, but they changed the formula and the packaging a little bit. I wasn’t sure whether or not I would like this new and improved formula, but I still decided to give it a go. Well, turns out I’m completely in love with the Uriage Light Water Cream! Not only is it as amazing as its predecessor, but in my opinion, it’s even better!
The Light Water Cream has more of a gel feel than a regular moisturizer. Don’t worry if it’s a little watery – that’s because it contains thermal water, which is a great ingredient to detoxify your skin! I personally love the texture – it’s easy to apply and leaves my skin feeling fresh! And can we talk about that smell? It’s sooo amazing! Sometimes I just randomly open the tube to smell it because I love it so much.
I’m currently alternating between the two tubes, as I have a little of my old gel cream left.
Step 5: A little extra.
Every once in a while, I like to add a little pep to my daily skincare routine. So whenever I need to feel rejuvenated or my skin needs a little something extra, I will do a facemask.
I’m currently alternating between two facemasks that I purchased from Lush after my friend had recommended them to me. I do them both once a week (or at least I try to) and always feel like my skin is glowing after I’ve done them. I didn’t use to do facemasks very often, but now I feel like they had a little something to my routine, and my skin is thanking me for it!
The first mask that I love is the Lush Cup O’ Coffee Face and Body Mask Scrub. It’s made with actual coffee grounds and it smells SO GOOD. It’s perfect to use in the morning as the coffee smell wakes you and your skin up. I personally only use it on my face, but you could also use it all over your body if you wanted to. What I really love about this mask is that it also double as a scrub. It has little exfoliating beads in it, which leaves your skin soft and smooth after usage. All you have to do is apply a generous layer onto your skin, leave it on for about 10-15 minutes, and then rinse it off by massaging it. It’s super easy to use and it leaves your skin exfoliated! I do have to warn you though: your skin might smell like coffee for a little while after using it (but is that such a bad thing?).
The second mask that I’ve been using is the Lush FOMO Jelly Face Mask. I don’t know if you’ve heard or tried Lush’s new jelly face masks, but everyone and their mother have been talking about them, so my friend and thought we would try them. The texture is really weird. It’s unlike anything that I’ve ever tried before. The mask is pretty consistent, so you have to really rub it in to apply it. Then, leave it on for about 5-10 minutes, or until it starts drying off. Apply a generous layer as it tends to dry off pretty quickly! If the mask dries completely, it might dry your skin. I take it off in the shower with a face cloth. You could also use a cotton pad to remove it completely. What makes me love this mask so much is how radiant my skin is after I’ve used it! I’m literally glowing (no need for highlight!), and I look healthy and rested even if I’m tired as hell (#truestory). The FOMO mask is meant to clarify the skin and it has definitely lived up to my expectations so far!
My skin care routine changes with time, but this is what has been working for me lately. Which skincare products are in your holy grail when it comes to skincare? Have you tried any of the ones mentioned above?
