GOMO Is The New Yolo

Have you ever feel left out? Have you ever feared you weren’t enjoying life to its fullest? Well, that’s FOMO. And trust me when I say that I’ve been in this situation more than I’d like to admit. I have feared too often that I was missing out on life, not doing everything I could to make it count.

GOMO Is the New YOLO

In this spirit, Eventbrite, the largest self-service ticketing platform, is trying to end FOMO and get people into the habit of GOMO – Going Out More Often. They want to make 2016 about spending our money on experiences rather than on material things.

In that spirit, I thought I would share how I intend on GOMO and make 2016 the best year yet!

As stupid as that might sound, saying no is often what is keeping me from enjoying life. I am way too happy to decline an invite and stay home to binge watch my favorite show on Netflix. But this has to stop. In order to get out of my house and finally start living my life the way I should, I need to stop being afraid and say yes to opportunities. No more regrets.

Then again, that may sound stupid, or obvious. Of course making plans will make me go more often! But that’s the spirit. I’ve never really been one for planning my weekends and such ahead, only my busy school weeks (and even there…). To get out of the house, I actually need to have a reason to do it. And what better way to do so than making plans with my friends? That way, I know I won’t be able to bail. Being the one to invite shows that you care and gives you a great opportunity to reach out to people!

I’m used to doing the same things. I love routines, but to make this year count, I need to get out of my comfort zone. Say yes to things I normally wouldn’t do. Now, no need to get overboard and do something I’m not comfortable with, but I need to reach a little higher in order to make 2016 better than ever!

That’s probably going to be the hardest thing to do. You might know that I’m basically addicted to Internet (with being a blogger and a ruthless Netflix marathoner). But being online keeps me from going outside. I spend way too much time sitting in front of a computer and that needs to change, not only so I can GOMO, but also for health reasons. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’m completely going to shut it out of my life (because we all know that’s not going to happen), but I definitely need to reduce the amount of time spent online.

What I’m looking forward to this year

Maybe you already know, but I love Justin Bieber. I’m not his biggest fan or anything, but I absolutely love his music. I have been to his Believe Tour back in 2012, and it was one of the best nights of my life. I love the ambiance of a concert, the frenzy and the energy roaming from the stadium. As you might know, Bieber is going on another tour for the release of his new album, Purpose. My cousin was nice enough to get my sister and I concert tickets for the Montreal show in May! I’m so excited and am definitely looking forward to see the show with two of my favorite people! I can already tell that this is going to be one of the best experiences. I can’t wait! (Read about my experience at the tour)

What about you? How do you intend on Going Out More Often? What are you looking forward to this year?
